Description: With the English popular name “pummelo,” citrus maxima is a widely grown and distributed plant in Southeast Asia and the East Indian Archipelago. During the New World’s time of discovery, it was introduced to the Caribbean, where it is known as shaddock. Low-branching, evergreen Citrus maximum trees can reach heights of 5 to 10 metres, with sporadic specimens reaching 15 metres. Although some cultivars lack spines, the spreading branches are covered in up to 5-cm-long spines. In tropical and subtropical areas, the tree is often cultivated for its edible fruit; however, even if the fruit is of subpar quality, the tree may still be grown for its multiple therapeutic uses. In Asian nations, it is a well-liked fruit.
