Description: Deciduous trees up to 25 m high, which is native to tropical America, was brought to Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. S. macrophylla is one of the world’s most valuable sources of hardwood timber used to create furniture and is frequently grown in Singapore as a decorative wayside tree. S. macrophylla is an evergreen tree that lives a long time and grows slowly. It can reach heights of 35–40 m and girths of 3–4 m. When trees are young, their bark is smooth and grey; but, as they get older, their bark turns dark brown and grey, ridged, and flaky. Propagation: Seed-based propagation. Mature fruits that are plucked straight off the tree and battered to release the capsule to access the seeds.
