Cycas circinalis L.

English Name:  Queen Sago palm

Malayalam Name: ഈന്ത്

Botanical Name: Cycas circinalis L.

Family:  Cycadaceae

Flowering & Fruiting: December-February

Description: Trees with a big pinnately complex terminal crown of leaves. In a big yard, Queen Sago is frequently the centre of attention. The Sago Palm is a cycad, not a palm. Cycads are among the world’s oldest seed plants, having endured unaltered for millions of years. The rosette-like arrangement of this plant’ feathery leaves gives the scene a tropical feel. Bright green, semi-glossy, 150-250 cm long, flat (not keeled), with 170 leaflets, opposing leaflets inserted at 180° on rachis, and tomentum shedding as leaf grows are the characteristics of the leaves.
