Description: Trees, to 25 m high. Diarrhea is treated with a decoction of the inner bark and fresh leaves. To alleviate stomachaches, little pieces of the bark are brewed and consumed. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is shown to be inhibited by a crude aqueous or alcoholic extract of the leaves. An infusion of the leaves is used as a laxative and the alkaloid component of the leaves has CNS effects. Skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, and pruritus are treated with a decoction of the fresh material that is used as a wash. As a CNS-sedative, fruit decoction is employed. To relieve a sore throat, the seeds are chewed.
